Nike Training Club Manifesto

No gym? No time? No problem. There’s an app for that.

Friends, if you are unfamiliar with the iPhone and Android app, Nike Training Club, you have been missing out. This gem gives you a personal trainer whenever and wherever you’re able to work out. I’ve used this app in my building’s gym, my kitchen, and outside. Get lean, toned or strong with workouts that range from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. Each workout corresponds with reward and fuel points which can unlock anything from a bonus workout from a celebrity trainer, to a routine led by Olympic athlete, Gabby Douglas. Pick a workout based on your goals, set your own music from your favorite playlist, and when you’re done share your accomplishment via Facebook or Twitter – let’s get real, if you can’t tweet about it is it worth doing?!

Taking the guess work out of each drill the digital personal trainer provides audio guidance that counts down time/reps, queues what muscles should be feeling the heat, and calls out proper form. As if that wasn’t enough, video demos are available for every move at any time. When you’ve only got 20 minutes to sweat, this app packs a lot of punch.

In February of 2013 NTC Lincoln Park (833 W. Armitage) opened their doors to bring the app to life. This gorgeous two story building hosts the latest women’s footwear, apparel and accessories on the ground floor and an open studio on the second floor. Classes are free and are taught by Chicago personal trainers, coaches, and group exercise instructors. Each workout is 45 minutes long and enhances the components of the app with a motivating sense of community and camaraderie.  We have no limits. The world is our gym. Just do it!
