  • in reply to: How do I decide if I should bulk or cut first? #12456

Whether you bulk or cut first is a personal preference! You can do either. Or you can attempt body recomposition which is losing fat and building muscle simultaneously. If you were part of the April community, my lecture on the Life Cycle of a diet talks about how to bulk, cut, and go from one phase to another.
    This post can also help!https://thefourpercent.com/2019/05/22/the-101-on-body-recomposition/

If you want to bulk first – calculate maintenance and start from there. Work your way up in calories if you’re losing weight. You may need to take maintenance and add 500 calories for a starting point.
If you want to cut first, calculate your deficit and go forth.
Your training will remain the same – progressive strength training – regardless of phase!!
D- if you want to map out a specific approach set up a 1:1 and I will outline a plan for you depending on your timeline. ♥️

Okay so you could hop on the bike – but the point of NEAT is to be more active throughout the day which is incidental movement so getting up every hour and walking around your neighborhood or house, taking the stairs, walking instead of driving, chores, etc.
There is nothing magical about the 10k step goal. 6k, 8k are also great milestones. I would start a little smaller and try to achieve movement during the day instead of catching up during the evening.

Hi! GREAT question. Unless there is an indirect interference at play, no! Walking does not cannibalize hypertrophic gains. It’s a great way to get your movement up, bond with your baby, get your NEAT in, and get some fresh air.

Let’s say, for example, the walking was causing pelvic discomfort and tightness and that was impacting your mood, sleep, ability to lift, pelvic health, etc, that would be another story. BUT if there aren’t any red flags in your approach or discomfort you’re golden. Get it ma!!

Hi! YES! The sole is hard, flat, and inflexible, so it may not be the most comfortable for other activities outside of lifting.

Yes! That’s a sign of DR. You can do a quick test on yourself or have a PT assess to see to what degree yours is and evaluate a rehab plan.

Diana! NEVER feel less than for your treadmill speeds. They are just a guide and always at your discretion. If your goals are hypertrophy – speed doesn’t matter! It’s all about rate of perceived exertion!

YES! My girlfriend took her course and said it was so effective.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Cara financially supported the Trump presidential campaign and presidency which came out earlier this year. A deal-breaker for me to engage and support her BUT to each their own, her methods are loved by many, many parents!
