If you’ve ever needed to take a break from training, have had to rehab an injury, or have worried about losing your hard-earned muscle, here are two facts to help ease your mind.

    1. It takes less volume and frequency to maintain muscle than when you built it in the first place. That’s right – even if your training decreases, you can still maintain the muscle mass you have, and it takes a lot less training to do so. Read more about that here.
    2. Thanks to your muscle memory, the regrowth of old muscle tissue isn’t as difficult. Building muscle is a metabolic process that requires specific circumstances. Muscle cells are unique in that they have multiple nuclei – or “command centers,” so when you take time off and then return to the gym, each muscular cell has more than one “center” stimulating and regulating muscle growth.

Don’t worry if you lose muscle throughout any season in life. You can regain any lost muscle, and it doesn’t take as long as you think it will!
