Say you only take Barry’s X classes & you are loyal AF to the mad man we all love named Erick Ivan Wilson…..What is the best method for tracking progression knowing his class structure? I know that the random days he structures everything for time vs reps & there are no EMOM’s, I can get through class lifting much heavier weights but those days are as rare as me winning the lottery.
My current strategy for his classes is to lift as heavy as I can with proper form for his “introductory” rounds & I typically have to lower the weights by 5/10 for the EMOM, depending on what is on deck. However, I have noticed as of late that my current strategy has resulted in me having about 20-25 seconds of rest (sometimes 30) each EMOM round so I feel that I’m due for some sort of progression.
With that being said, knowing that he has a fondness for all things EMOM, what is the best way to progress from a strength aspect:
1. Keep the same weights throughout the entire class (“intro round” and his EMOM block) & lower reps he’s shouting out during the EMOM blocks so that I still get about 10-15 seconds of rest?
2. Keep the EMOM with the reduced weights I’m using & perhaps add additional reps to what this man is shouting out while still striving to get 10-15 seconds of rest?
3. Continue with my status quo, focusing on increasing either amount of reps or adding weight to these “introductory” blocks of work & letting the EMOM block finishers be a bit of a burnout with the decreased weights?
Does anyone have any strategies they’ve implemented for this man’s classes & that have worked?
