Hey Kate – I have a question! Sorry if it was asked during the community call, I missed it!

This is in relation to the break that you were talking about during “the cut” phase. *Thanks to Foundation* I’m definitely having the most successful cut I’ve ever had, and am finally starting to get closer to my goals than ever. The cut’s been a slow, slow decrease and has been working really well. I am about 18 weeks into this cut, so per the lecture, it’s probably time to take a break. Just curious though – is it mandatory or important to take that break to avoid plateau, or is it more for the mental break we need? I want to continue progressing and I feel like I’m on a roll right now, and am seeing the results pay out, but I want to do what’s best for the long game. Can I push the break off for further down the road to when I’m mentally checked, skip it, or just throw it in for best results?

    Thanks!

EXCELLENT QUESTION. If you’re feeling great – keep going. The research is mixed in terms of the efficacy of a diet break in terms of metabolic and hormonal output. Meaning, there may or may not be valid support to show there are physiological benefits from a diet break. However, the studies do show that breaks are the #1 way to avoid mental fatigue and burnout. So do they completely help? Maybe! Do they hurt? Not at all.

If I were you – I would keep going and evaluate on a weekly basis. If you feel like you’re starting to get burnt out, or progress is stalling and you don’t want to decrease calories then implement the break strategy. Does that make sense? GOOD FOR YOU MA.
