For the past year and a half I have had the privilege of calling myself a Nike NTC Trainer. With it comes so many perks: amazing swag, intense workouts led by celebrity trainers, fun events and access to cutting-edge training technology. But by far the BEST part of this incredible experience is meeting so many inspiring trainers and fitness experts, many of which I not only feel so lucky to not only call colleagues, but also friends.
Two of my favorites, Nikki Metzger and Gina Caifano inspire me every day. Their energy is contagious and their passion is palpable. Nikki is a Nike MASTER TRAINER (that’s right), group ex instructor, and personal trainer changing the lives of hundreds of people a week. Gina is also a personal trainer, group ex instructor and teaches a spectrum of classes throughout Lincoln Park and River North…although who knows how she finds the time, this lady spends the majority of her day as a registered nurse. I love being around them in and outside of the gym.
One night over a glass (okay, bottle, okay TWO BOTTLES, OMG FINE – THREE BOTTLES) of wine an idea was born – a fitness party unlike any other that we dubbed, Sweat With a Purpose – to inspire the women of the Chicago fitness community to move together and support one another in the journey to a healthy lifestyle. The purpose is a call to action: to sweat, network, and pay it forward benefiting a select charity.
On Saturday, October 5th 80+ chicks will be taking over the Vertigo Sky Lounge at the Dana Hotel for a quick workout led by Nikki, Gina and myself; an informal discussion; and of course cocktails! Not only will we be celebrating our health but also each other. This month we are encouraging attendees to make an optional (cash) donation to Bright Pink a national non-profit organization focusing on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women while providing support for high-risk individuals.
